Final Year Milestone

July Practical Examination for Final Year Students

Our final year nursing and midwifery students demonstrated their readiness for professional practice during the July practical examinations. Across clinical wards, nursing labs, and assessment stations, candidates were evaluated on the hands-on skills and clinical competencies essential to safe, compassionate care.

Clinical Skills

Bedside procedures, aseptic technique, and hands-on patient care performed under examination conditions.

Competency Assessment

Each candidate is scored across structured stations that mirror real ward responsibilities.

Patient-Centred Care

Communication, safety, and empathy assessed alongside technical proficiency.

Oral Examination

VIVA: Oral Examination for Final Year Students

The VIVA is a face-to-face oral examination in which final year nursing and midwifery students sit before a panel of examiners. Through direct, spoken questioning, it tests each candidate's clinical thinking, practical skills, and core medical knowledge, ensuring graduates can explain, defend, and apply what they know in real patient care.

Clinical Thinking

Students reason through real scenarios, justifying decisions and demonstrating sound clinical judgement.

Practical Skills

Examiners probe hands-on competencies and the rationale behind each nursing procedure.

Core Knowledge

Face-to-face questioning tests the depth of essential medical and nursing knowledge.
